As the internet becomes all pervasive, more and more capacity is being added each year to such an extent that the ability of the internet to move information from one place to another is becoming almost limitless.
Clearly millions of users are joining the internet revolution.

Delivery of text messages and still images is old hat. Music has been distributed in this way for years. Now it is the moving picture that is occupying space in the ether, Video Television over IP (IPTV).

For commercial IPTV service to be a success, there are a number of environmental criteria to take into consideration:

a favourable regulatory environment;
no dominant terrestrial broadcast television company;
no dominant local satellite broadcast television company;
an infrastructure capable of supporting IPTV;
and good quality programme content.

The last point is a critical one and is dependent upon an operator or cable company making an alliance with a content provider with good quality and a large catalogue.
