According to the 2004 Global Burden of Asthma Report, there were about 300 million asthma patients worldwide. One out of every 250 disease-related deaths was caused by asthma. In China, the incidence rate of asthma patients has continuously increased in the recent years, especially among urban children. The latest survey shows that the incidence rate is 0.7% - 1.5% in adults and 0.11% - 2.03% in children. Asthma has been known as a costly disease that is difficult to cure. On average asthma treatment will cost a patient over RMB 3000 per year in China.
