Summary
This Health Industry Insights report presents the results of a survey of health information technology leadership conducted to assess the effects of the recession on their spending outlook, actual budgetary changes, and the specific projects and initiatives affected by any changes. The survey was conducted in January and February 2009, prior to the passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), which provided some additional government funding for healthcare IT. Survey respondents included senior IT executives from hospitals of various bed sizes, but principally larger institutions, and large ambulatory practices.
According to Research Manager Judy Hanover, with Health Industry Insights' Healthcare Provider Practice, "recessionary conditions have changed the expectations for healthcare information technology spending as we enter 2009, yet we still see only a small number of cancellations, and many long-term projects are unaffected."
