Summary

As the European macroeconomic environment becomes gloomier, healthcare executives will face tighter budget constraints and IT spending will increasingly be allocated to those solutions that truly respond to industry-specific needs. Modernization of IT infrastructure in the Western European healthcare sector will be more cautious.

"Integration, competitiveness, and security are today's buzzwords for the healthcare sector," said Silvia Piai, senior research analyst, Health Industry Insights. "As the agenda becomes more costumer-oriented in the health industry, solutions requiring systems integration and that enhance competitiveness are favored overall. However, continued improvement is also seen to be necessary in data privacy and information security."

This Health Industry Insights report provides an analysis of healthcare trends in IS budget plans, IT strategy, and decision-making processes, channel selection, and customer satisfaction. Analysis is based on 174 interviews in the healthcare sector as part of the annual IDC Vertical Market Survey conducted in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the U.K.
