after thirty years as a division of the pharmaceutical giant, Bristol-Myers Squibb, ConvaTec, a world leader in the development and marketing of innovative wound therapeutics and ostomy care products, became a separate entity in August 2008, following its divestment to new owners, Nordic Capital and Avista Capital Partners in a deal valued at US$4.1 billion. A month after this transition, in September 2008, ConvaTec acquired Unomedical, a Danish manufacturer of hospital products and infusion devices, from Nordic Capital Fund IV. The combined company, which retains the ConvaTec name and will continue to be led by ConvaTec CEO, David Johnson, will have approximately 8,000 employees and annual revenues in the region of US$1.6 billion. ConvaTec will have four business divisions: Ostomy Care, Wound Therapeutics, Continence & Critical Care, and Infusion Devices. Infusion Devices will continue to operate separately. The Unomedical Infusion Devices division is a major supplier of infusion sets to insulin pump companies worldwide, with a particularly strong competitive position in Europe. as required by the European Competition Commission, the integration will not include the Unomedical Wound Care division, which will be divested by Nordic Capital within the next several months.
