Nipro Corporation, based in Osaka, Japan, was established in July 1954 and is engaged in the manufacture and marketing of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, glass and materials. The company also operated supermarkets and consumer drug stores in Japan through its Supermarket division, but sold these operations in June 2006.

The company's core medical device activities, including dialysis devices, intervention anaesthesiology devices, infusion and diagnostics products, and cardiopulmonary products, are undertaken by its Medical Equipment division, which is Nipro's largest unit, accounting for 64% of the company's total revenue in fiscal 2007 (ended 31st March 2008). Its Pharmaceutical division produces and sells generic drugs and in May 2007 expanded its activities to the production of percutaneously absorbed drugs through contract manufacturing. Nipro's Medical Equipment division operates main factories in Japan (Gunma and Akita), China (Shanghai), Thailand (Ayuthaya), the US (Florida) and Brazil (So Paulo). The division also has more than 30 sales offices in Europe, Asia and the Americas.
