This industry is forecast to benefit from an increasing number of US citizens aged at least 85 years (a cohort that accounts for over 50% of nursing facility residents, and a much greater share of nursing facility spending) who will drive growth in demand for nursing care. The positive impact that population aging will have on the demand for nursing care facilities will, however, be partially offset by the impacts of later onset of frailty.

This industry comprises establishments primarily engaged in providing inpatient nursing and rehabilitative services. The care is generally provided for an extended period of time to individuals requiring nursing care. These establishments have a permanent core staff of registered or licensed practical nurses who, along with other staff, provide nursing and continuous personal care services.
