The MEMS industry worldwide reached almost $ 6B in 2006 and grows with a compound annual growth rate of 14%.

New applications for the consumer markets and the automotive business are boosting the growth of MEMS businesses. At the same time, the product mix is changing: consumer and automotive applications are driving the industrial process from 6'' to 8'' wafer size.

Most new companies (start-up or large players) are fabless or fablight, using the existing manufacturing infrastructure, either MEMS or IC foundries.
