Report Buyer, the online destination for business intelligence for major industry sectors, has now added the report entitled Philippines Services Executive Report which focuses on the Philippines information technology (IT) and business process outsourcing (BPO). The analysis concentrates on the US$5.2 billion Philippines IT sector, projected to grow 38.5% in 2008.
A Competitive Asia-Pacific Alternative highlights that the Philippines is the second largest supplier of IT and BPO after India. The authors of the report project that the Philippines IT and BPO employment numbers will exceed 500,000 by 2010. They analysed the city-by-city demographic distribution of the 400,000 annual graduates coming from its IT schools, technical colleges, universities and institutes.
The study also analysed twenty domestic and international vendors operating in these established and emerging city-states. The local vendors analysed include Aktus, Micro Sourcing, Somersault, BiPO – Digital, Infinite, Teledevelopment, Advanced Contact Solutions, Cebu Global, Teleservices, BPO Global Concepts and VoiceVille. International vendors evaluated include Fujitsu, HSBC EDP, ICT, ePLDT, NCO, PeopleSupport, Sitel, Telecech, NCO and Convergys.
The report finds that the country faces a number of internal and external challenges, despite its advantages of competitive wage costs, strong English-ready professional, U.S. cultural alignment and a relatively stable market friendly economy. The key challenges include relatively high levels of software piracy and intellectual property costs, moderately high risks of natural disasters and political issues.
However, the report finds that Philippines will continue to effectively use its BPO export services success to build an IT outsourcing competitive positioning.
