Summary

The Italian Internet Services Market was worth €2.5 billion at the end of 2006, consisting of 9.7 million internet connections and making up 60% of total households.

The overall Italian market is nearing saturation, with four out of five PC households having broadband access by 2010. We expect growth to arise from a migration to faster connectivity speeds driven by increased consumer awareness of broadband services and greater Italian-language content. Overall broadband ARPU is expected to decline due to increased competition in pricing and bundling by service providers. Given the current popularity of IPTV in Italy, we expect take-up of IPTV to increase with broadband connections serving around 20% of broadband households by 2010.
