Summary
The Spanish Internet Services Market was worth €2.2 billion at the end of 2006, consisting of 7.7 million internet connections and making up 50% of total households.
Similar to other Western European markets, the Spanish market is nearing saturation of PC households. We expect growth to arise from a migration to faster connectivity speeds driven by increased consumer awareness of broadband services and greater Spanish-language content. Overall broadband ARPU is expected to decline mildly due to increased price competition between service providers, although this will be offset in part by consumers having higher bandwidth requirements. Given the current popularity of IPTV in Spain, we expect take-up of IPTV to increase with broadband connections and constitute around 30% of broadband households by 2010.
