This study provides a forecast for 2006 to 2009 and analyzes the results of the user survey entitled, Survey on Datacenter Services in Japan, which was conducted in November 2005. It also summarizes the extent of market penetration achieved by datacenter services as well as the issues that are involved with them.

The datacenter services market in Japan maintains steady growth. In the Tokyo metropolitan area, the growth rate is likely to decrease in the short term because of the shortage on the supply side to cater to the demand of user companies but IDC expects the market to show a two-digit compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 14.2% from 2005 to 2009 to reach 875.4 billion yen in 2009. The operating rates of some datacenters in the Tokyo metropolitan area are reaching their peak and physical problems with regard to whether SPs in the area can absorb any further increase in demand or not exist. In order to solve this problem, Akimasa Nakao, analyst, IT Services Research, IDC Japan, says, "datacenter SPs have to review their service delivery models and create new IT services from a long-term perspective."
