Summary

IEMR's Europe and Central Asia Mobile Forecast provides over 65 operational and financial metrics for wireless markets across Europe and Central Asia. We cover quarterly historical data starting in 4Q2003 and ending in 4Q2007. We also provide four-year forecasts at the operator level. Our Europe and Central Asia Aggregation contains separate data for 22 countries and their mobile operators (82 operators in total). Our Mobile Forecasts are updated quarterly and are available for one-time delivery or through regular updates.

Through IEMR's custom-designed spreadsheets you can select specific metrics and customize the results based on country, region and/or operator. The operator data table can also be used for instant access to operators by Country or all together. A set of charts will also be created automatically based on your selections for the first 6 data entries of each table. This allows for quick access to desired data, saving the time typically wasted scrolling through the data and allowing for comparisons across countries and operators. This regional forecast also has the added function of charting all 65 operational and financial metrics for a single country simply by selecting it from a drop down menu.

Notable highlights of the 2Q08 Europe and Central Asia Mobile Forecast include:

Trends in Wireless Markets:

  • THE FASTEST GROWING WIRELESS MARKETS IN THE REGION (TURKEY): We continue to believe that fastest growing wireless market in the region from 2008 - 2010 by subscribers will be Turkey. We are now forecasting that Turkey will see a subscriber growth rate of about 15.3% over the next three years from our projected 2008 subscriber estimates. We are projecting a subscriber base in Turkey of 81.7 million subscribers, making Turkey the 3rd largest market in the region (based on subscribers) after Russia and Germany.
  • THE MARKET WHERE CONSUMERS PAY THE MOST FOR WIRELESS SERVICES IN EUROPE AND CENTRAL ASIA (NORWAY): In 2010, the market where consumers pay the most for their mobile services in the region (as measured by Average Revenue per User, ARPU) will be Norway with US$ 61.85 per user. Pure duopoly of Telenor Mobil and Netcom (TeliaSonera) will continue to allow for the high levels of ARPU in Norway.
  • THE MARKET WHERE CONSUMERS PAY THE LEAST FOR WIRELESS SERVICES IN EUROPE AND CENTRAL ASIA (UKRAINE): We are expecting Ukraine to have the lowest ARPU levels in the region. Operator-wide ARPU levels in Ukraine are expected to reach US$ 6.98 in 2008 and stabilize to US$ 7.13 in 2010.
  • THE MARKET WHERE CONSUMERS CAN EXPECT TO SEE THE BIGGEST INCREASE IN WIRELESS SERVICE CHARGES IN EUROPE AND CENTRAL ASIA (RUSSIA): Within our coverage list, we are expecting Russia to see the highest level of ARPU increase. Between 2008 and 2010, consumers in Russia can be expected to pay 27% more for their wireless services, mostly due ongoing consolidation in Russia's wireless sector and the regional nature of competition in Russia's wireless space.

Operator Highlights:

  • THE FASTEST GROWING OPERATOR IN EUROPE AND CENTRAL ASIA (XFERA IN SPAIN): Our model is continuing to forecast that Spain's Xfera will see the highest level of subscriber growth among the 80 wireless operators in our coverage list. Subscriber levels will rise by 100% between 2008 and 2010 for this operator to reach 1.8 million subscribers in 2010.
  • THE OPERATORS THAT WILL ADD THE MOST SUBSCRIBERS IN EUROPE AND CENTRAL ASIA (Turkcell and Vodafone Turkey): We are forecasting that both Turkcell and Vodafone Turkey will add 3.8 million wireless subscribers in the next three years.
  • THE OPERATOR WHICH WILL CHARGE ITS CUSTOMERS THE MOST IN EUROPE AND CENTRAL ASIA (Vodafone in Ireland): In 2010, the operator which will bill its customers at the highest level in our coverage list will be Vodafone in Ireland with an ARPU of US$ 64.26 per month in 2010.
  • THE OPERATOR WHICH WILL CHARGE ITS CUSTOMERS THE LEAST IN EUROPE AND CENTRAL ASIA (ASTELIT IN UKRAINE): In 2010, the operator which will bill its customers at the lowest rate in our coverage list will be Astelit in Ukraine with an ARPU of only US$ 4.12 per month in 2010.
  • THE MOST PROFITABLE OPERATOR IN EUROPE AND CENTRAL ASIA IN 2010 (KYIVSTAR IN UKRAINE): Within our coverage list, we are continuing to expect Kyivstar in Ukraine to be the most profitable operator in the region. On average, we are expecting EBITDA margins at Kyivstar to be 56% over the next three years.
