Summary
In Europe, if not worldwide, Fastweb is known for its innovation. It showed Europe the way with regards to triple-play, has one of the most successful fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) deployments in Europe to date, and has always been at the forefront of service innovations such as networked personal video recording (PVR) and video telephony via the TV. On 1 September the company showed once again that it is ahead of the curve, with the launch of a standalone Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) service known as FastwebTV.
Although perhaps not technically innovative as such, from the business perspective the new service is quite revolutionary. Many industry experts Ovum has recently spoken with have claimed that such services cannot be delivered in a profitable way, so what makes Fastweb so certain that it can do differently?
