C&W International Selects Sonus For IP Voice Network Equipment and Professional Services

This IDC Event Flash reviews the September 19, 2006, announcement that London-based Cable & Wireless International has selected Sonus Networks as the supplier of its next-generation IP-voice network. Cable & Wireless International plans to deploy one of the world's largest IP-voice networks delivering primary line local, long-distance, and international telephony services. The size of the deal was not made public, but it is a significant multi-year engagement. This announcement follows in the wake of recent announcements by Dutch incumbent, KPN, on its decision to select Lucent as a prime integrator and IMS equipment provider for its all-IP network. These statements -along with on-going efforts such as BT's 21 CN -signal an unmistakable move in Europe towards the replacement of legacy networks with next-generation infrastructures aimed at lower costs and the rollout of new, revenue-generating services.
