Summary
This study examines data taken from IDC's telephony equipment survey to establish trends and help readers understand the key drivers behind phone adoption. The primary phone used by an individual can be prescribed by the attributes of his or her occupation/vertical industry, including the amount of mobility required in the immediate vicinity of the primary workspace, or if there is no primary workspace at all; the number of features required, such as call forwarding or voicemail; and integration into key back-office and even strategic applications, such as CRM and ERP systems. Moreover, the size of a company reveals the relative penetration of each technology based on the installed base of an incumbent technology.
