Summary

"As traditional fixed-voice connections continue to decline, business VoIP services are primed for mainstream adoption," said Julie Wall, research analyst, European VoIP Services. "VoIP is gaining accelerated business acceptance because it provides measurable cost savings, simplifies the delivery and management of communications, and facilitates convergence for more flexible business practices. Service providers offering hosted VoIP services to enterprises have the potential opportunity to transform the business voice market."

Operators are turning to VoIP services in an effort to offset their declining fixed-voice revenues. Many European service providers are now offering hosted VoIP services, but the number of customers using these services is still a small percentage of the overall VoIP services market.

Hosted IP voice services are an alternative to premises-based business telephone systems. These services are fundamentally different from PBXs because capital expenditure is avoided, maintenance contracts are unnecessary, and management is fully outsourced to a secure, central location. These hosted and managed VoIP services offer a number of advantages to the fragmented and complex European telecom environment.
