The Cellular Industry surpassed the 2 billion global subscriber mark a couple of years ago, and is rapidly marching toward the 3rd billion. Developed markets are already saturated in Europe and parts of Asia-Pacific; the growth is therefore coming from emerging regions of the world.
Emerging markets including Brazil, Russia, India and China (BRIC), Middle East and African (MEA), Asia, and Latin America will represent 80% of worldwide subscriber growth, with just the BRIC countries representing over 50 percent of the world's subscriber growth between 2006 and 2009. The cellular market in these countries is rapidly developing, driven by an improving economic environment, the need for connectedness, poor wireline infrastructure, affordability of cellular services, and the availability of low cost handsets.
