Summary

Industry Posts Decline

All areas of the economy are serviced by this industry, even unprofitable ones, which therefore reduce operational profitability. Further compounding the industry's decline is the threat of biological terrorism. In 2001, the mail was used as a means of delivering fatal Anthrax powder, which resulted in the death of USPS employees and the closure of two plants. Since these events, higher expenditure levels have provided technology for biohazard detection.

This industry comprises establishments primarily engaged in operating the National Postal Service. Establishments covered by the scope of this report include those primarily engaged in performing one or more postal services, such as sorting, routing, and/or delivery, on a contract basis (except the bulk transportation of mail) are included in this industry. This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
