Summary

In 2005, the total production value and sales value of China railway industry was respectively RMB 3.76 billion and RMB 3.89 billion, decreasing RMB 460 million and RMB 270 million year on year.
In 2005, the operating revenue and realized profit were respectively RMB 98.7 billion and RMB 2.7 billion, increasing by 18.7% and 13.1% year on year.
By the end of 2004, China railway operating-mileage reached 74,408 kilometers, increasing 1,406 kilometers or 1.9% compared with 2003. Till 2020, the nationwide railway operating-mileage will reach 100,000 kilometers
In 2005, transportation revenue of China railway was RMB 201.9 billion, increased RMB 22.5 billion or 12.5% compared with 2004. Freight revenue accounted for 54.8%.
In 2005, investment in infrastructure of China railway was RMB 88.9 billion, increased 67.3% compared with 2004. And investment in railway construction accounted for 85%. The investment in railway upgrading was RMB 20.8 billion, increasing 8.6% compared with 2004.
In 2007, passenger and freight transportation of China railway will be opened to foreign capital. From 2006, goods transportation will be opened to foreign capital and so is passenger transportation from 2007.
From 2005 to 2020, the ministry of railway will invest RMB 2,000 billion to railway construction, with an annual average investment of over RMB 160 billion.
