This IDC study (a translation of the Japanese document IDC #J14210109) analyzes the Japan Data Loss Prevention (DLP) market performance in 2013, and forecasts how the software products and appliance products markets will perform from 2014 to 2018. The user survey shows that implementation cost, implementation effects, and implementation work are major issues in DLP product implementation. These issues are also inhibiting market growth. DLP product implementation is expanding from departmental implementation to companywide implementation. "Thus, vendors must come up with ideas in areas where implementation effects can be expected while clearly outlining the implementation objectives and curtailing initial spending during implementation, such as implementing solutions that are restricted to functions that meet security purposes, beginning with departments that maintain or manage customer data and intellectual properties, and departments with clear-cut policies on handling confidential information. They should also propose solutions with scalability, such as solutions that can add functions at a low cost," says Tsuneo Tosaka, software and security research manager, IDC Japan.
