The market for the IoT in Central and Eastern Europe is taking off. Over the next five years, spending will soar, expanding at a compound annual growth rate of more than 17%. Government will be one of the most important sectors for IoT and will account for more than 35% of the five-year spending total. This study gives an overview of four key usage areas for the IoT in government in Central and Eastern Europe. It specifically assesses and forecasts spending for automated public transit, environmental monitoring detection, public infrastructure asset management, and public safety and emergency response.

"The public sector in CEE will not be the fastest-growing area for Internet-of-Things investments, but it will be one of the largest and most important. IoT deployments are natural extensions of the push to improve the delivery of public services to businesses and citizens, increase efficiency, and cut overall costs. Moreover, the data pulled in from IoT deployments will be a goldmine for planners and officials looking to develop new services and additional IoT deployments." -- Research Manager Mark Yates, IDC CEMA.
