This IDC study presents an IDC perspective on the current trends and expectations for disaster recovery as a service. It provides an overview of current market forces, the economic impact of cloud-based disaster recovery versus traditional DR, a vendor overview, and recommendations for both potential business buyers and the technology community.

According to IDC Program Director Paul Hughes, Storage and Data Management Services, "Disaster recovery is top of mind for virtually every IT department, regardless of the size of the business. As businesses continue down the path of cloud transformations, leveraging the cost benefits of cloud-based recovery services will no doubt be top of mind. While still in its early stages, we feel that cloud-based recovery-as-a-service options represent a cost-effective option for businesses of all sizes and represent a significant functional step up from backup offerings. We expect to see cloud-based recovery options continue to evolve and likely overtake cloud-based backup options, thanks to comprehensive data and application failover capabilities.
