ERP continues to be the primary enterprise IT application for manufacturing companies for which the biggest spend happens from a CIO's budget. This situation will not change drastically in the short to medium term. ERP will see an increase in the integration that happens to other IT systems.
Enterprises need to get creative to start diverting more of their IT spend from traditional legacy systems to emerging technologies that include cloud. "Manufacturing companies need to keep looking for opportunities to migrate to a cloud-based ERP in stages, if not in entirety, to fully leverage the advantages offered by next-generation applications in the market. Mash-up of cloud, ERP, and other associated systems can be an impactful combination to start cloud adoption for critical business systems and make a start in the journey toward new technology adoption", says Ramachandran S, principal research manager, IDC Manufacturing Insights.
