Summary Quarter 3 saw the economy continue to improve with good GDP growth. Soft and alcoholic drinks enjoyed a consumption increase, however dairy and hot drinks declined. A-BInBev announced a formal offer for their main competitor SABMiller, meaning together they would control more than 75% of US beer volumes.
Key Findings - While soft and alcoholic drinks consumption grew during the quarter, both dairy and hot drinks declined
- Packaged water had a strong three months which more than compensated for a further fall in carbonates
- Beer, wine and spirits also grew, although the quarterly growth rate for spirits was somewhat slower than in recent periods
- White milk was the main driver of the overall dairy category decline, although we saw further strong growth for GNRS and drinking yogurt
