This IDC Manufacturing Insights Perspective discusses highlights from the Siemens PLM Connection 2016 User Conference. Attendance was high at the recent 40th Siemens PLM Connection User Conference in Orlando, Florida, with ~30% of the audience being net-new participants in the event. A few attendees had been to 30+ PLM World events, including CEO Chuck Grindstaff; that is a lot of "PLM Connection" T-shirts.Like many a software user conference, the fervor of the audience was apparent in response to presentations and on message boards. The audience has reason to be excited: Siemens PLM has the luxury of a product set that covers the entire manufacturing process chain, from ideation to utilization, as the company currently says. Although many of the attendees may have attended only to come up to speed on Teamcenter, NX, or Tecnomatix, there was also great interest in digital manufacturing and analytics offerings as these end users need to determine how to tie their design and development tools to the broader application, process, and people ecosystem of manufacturing, supply chain, and IoT. Indeed, the Siemens PLM Connection 2016 User Conference was a meeting of established and new -- people and technology.
