Finally, it provides a statistical overview and analysis of the aviation market, with salient points presented graphically and highlighted for quick understanding.
WHY CHOOSE WATS? Rest assured it is an accurate source of air transport numbers The numbers in WATS are submitted directly to IATA by approximately 260 international airlines, and some of the data is exclusive to IATA. The reports by IATA’s world-renowned industry experts provide privileged insight to those statistics, based on unparalleled inside knowledge.
Available in multiple electronic formats to suit your needs: This product contains: a pdf report with data for 2015, with airline-level figures (appendices A, B, C as described below) in a spreadsheet for easy import to your systems
WATS is also available as a 10-year data series in e-format, including the pdf report for 2015 with data going back 10 years for: - Airlines: traffic, fleet, and employees, plus financials for 2015 - Industry-wide: traffic, rankings (from section 3) for passengers carried, RPK, freight tonnes carried, FTK
WHAT’S IN IT? Detailed airline usage and performance information (Appendices A, B, and C): This valuable data on individual airlines includes performance-based metrics such as revenue passengers carried (RPK) and load factors broken down into weight load factor to enable a study of overall load factors for airlines i.e. including both passenger and cargo measurements.
Also included are capacity metrics such as available seat kilometers (ASK) on the passenger side, and available tonne kilometers (ATK) on the cargo/freight side. For applicable airlines the same metrics are available with a breakdown into charter services, as well as overall airline fleet and financial performance.
Additional figures are included for: - distance/number of kilometers flown by an airline - number of flights and number of hours flown - number of passengers carried - amount of freight carried - number and types of employees
Aviation market overview and analysis: Demand for Air Transport (Section 1) Giving figures for the overall air transport industry with a regional breakdown included, demand is measured by, for example, the number of passengers carried by airlines, the amount (tonnage) of freight carried by both cargo only and mixed i.e. cargo and passenger-carrying operations/flights. But it also revealed in performance-based metrics such as revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), freight tonne kilometers (FTK), load factor and weight load factor, and revenue tonne kilometer (RTK), as well as capacity metrics such as available seat kilometers (ASK), available freight tonne kilometers (AFTK), and available tonne kilometers (ATK). These metrics are shared in different data tables that look at international, domestic, and total traffic separately for both passenger and freight as well as combined figures.
Further types of breakdown include depicting the data for these metrics, in easy-to-understand tables and graphs, by carrier type (e.g. low cost or legacy carriers), and looking at: - top countries - by region - by route areas - by cabin class
The section closes out with high-level passenger and freight forecasts which consolidate predicted growth rates for the industry from several trusted sources including ICAO, Airbus, Boeing, Embraer, US FAA, and Eurocontrol.
Performance of the Air Transport Industry (Section 2) Data on the financial performance of the industry is provided with a regional breakdown, and includes performance-based metrics such as yields. It also includes statistics on airline costs, fuel performance, and analysis on climate change as well as pricing info on jet fuel and crude oil.
Financial metrics include time series data on: - airline operating revenues - airline operating expenses - operating and net results
The performance section also includes analysis comparing to other data such as airline operating revenues, traffic, yield, and inflation rates, as well as comparisons between expenses, capacity, costs, and inflation. The cost data has a further breakdown into items such as salaries, fuel, equipment, maintenance, ticketing, sales, etc. Separated Yield data is also shared showing average passenger yields and unit cost by region.
The environmental performance section focuses primarily on analyzing climate change, alternate fuels, and highlights the big topics regarding this subject area. It also adds time series data tables on fuel efficiency performance as well as fuel pricing.
Safety and security performance information provides figures and analysis both on a regional and aircraft level, investigating: - accident rates - hull loss rates - fatal accident rates - time series on numbers of unruly passengers compared to number of flights - time series on number of security personnel compared to number of flights
Top performer information: Rankings (Section 3) Providing valuable benchmarking information, this section ranks: - Top airlines by passenger traffic broken down into domestic and international as well as by numbers of passengers and RPK - Top airlines by freight traffic broken down into domestic and international as well as by amount/tonnage of freight and FTK - Top passenger airport-pairs broken down into route areas for international, domestic, and regional traffic - Top passenger countries by region (based on number of passengers) - Top freight country pairs for international and regional traffic (based on amount of freight tonnes carried) - Airline alliances ranked by traffic volume - Airport rankings broken down by number of passengers handled and number of aircraft movements - Top airlines by financial results - Top airlines by number of employees overall and as a ratio of number of passengers, freight, and RTK - Top airlines by fleet with a breakdown on aircraft type
