This forecast represents a slight reduction from the previous forecast (see Worldwide Cloud Systems Management Software Forecast, 2017-2021, IDC #US41374417, February 2017). Enterprise-class organizations continue to embrace multicloud infrastructure, development, and software-as-a-service (SaaS) strategies that drive demand for cloud systems management software both on-premise and delivered via the public cloud SaaS model. Performance and availability management including capacity optimization, log analytics, and predictive application performance optimization continue to be the strongest growth areas. The market is feeling some pressure from management functionality that is delivered as embedded control and automation as part of on-premises software-defined infrastructure and as part of public cloud IaaS and PaaS solutions. Performance and analytics growth is strongest as this area is the least likely to be impacted by these sorts of embedded management strategies."The worldwide cloud systems management software market is expected to increase steadily during the 2017-2021 forecast period," explains Mary Johnston Turner, IDC research vice president, Enterprise System Management Software. "As more and more cloud workloads are deployed onto public clouds and converged infrastructure cloud platforms, we see slowing in revenue associated with basic configuration functionality and IaaS provisioning since that type of functionality is often bundled as part of core public cloud infrastructure services and software-defined infrastructure platforms. This bundling, along with the ongoing use of open source technology among public cloud service providers, is somewhat reducing growth opportunities for selected cloud systems configuration management functionality, even as demand for more advanced performance monitoring, IT operations analytics, and DevOps tool chain integration and automation rises."
