Summary
Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) is undertaking the construction of the E6 Halogaland Bridge Road and Tunnel Development project in Narvik, Nordland County, Norway.

The project involves the construction of two new roads on both sides of the Halogaland Bridge. The road on Narvik side will be 1.4km long, while the road on Oyjord side will be 3.5km long.

It will include the construction of the 270m long Ornes tunnel on Narvik side, the 330m long Storlikoll tunnel on Oyjord side, a 1.1km avalanche tunnel between Trældal and Leirvik, six portals and four culverts and the installation of safety and security systems.

Dissing+Weitling architecture has been appointed as architect for the project.

In May 2012, the project received approval from the Government in Council of Norway.

On October 5, 2012, bids were invited from the interested companies to compete for the construction contract with November 30, 2012, as the submission deadline.

Six companies including the Haehre, LNS, E Pihl & Son AS, Marti Contractors Ltd, NCC Construction AS and AF Gruppen AS submitted the bids for the tender.

On January 4, 2013, Istak, a subsidiary of E Pihl & Son AS, was awarded the construction contract worth US$64 million for the project.

In October 2013, Sichuan Road and Bridge Group were awarded a contract worth US$126 million for the delivery, production, and erection of steel structures for the project.

In December 2013, construction works commenced.

In September 2015, the tunnel between Trældal and Leirvik became operational.

Construction activities are underway on the rest of the project and are expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2018.

The project involves the construction of two road sections and two tunnels in Narvik, Nordland County, Norway, Europe.
