"Some service fulfilment systems are currently additional tools that will be inherent in SDN."

Much of the recent coverage of next-generation network technologies has focused on network function virtualisation (NFV), with the assumption that software-defined networking (SDN) is either a by-product or a constituent part of NFV. In truth, NFV and SDN are compatible and complimentary technologies that will enable communications service providers (CSPs) to add programmable control to their networks, which will greatly improve efficiency and simultaneously reduce costs. SDN will provide programmable connectivity and NFV will provide the programmable network functionality. The SDN market is growing rapidly and its adoption will have an impact on fulfilment systems and processes in the future.
