Summary
Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is undertaking the construction of a new Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) in New York, the US.

The project involves the construction of a 34,838m2 LIRR GCT Concourse facility.

It includes the construction of inter-modal connections, ventilation facilities at 44th and 50th Streets, Cross Passageway at 45th and 47th street, the installation of elevators and 17 deep escalators at 45th, 46th, 47th and 48th Streets, emergency egress stairs, 43m below-ground up to the dining concourse, safety and security systems, the laying of railway tracks.

In March 2014, MTA Capital Construction, a company of MTA, was appointed as project manager.

Funding will be derived from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and MTA local funds.

In February 2015, GCT Constructors, a joint venture of Schiavone Construction Co. and John P. Picone Inc., was appointed as the construction contractor for the project. The contract value is US$404.8 million, which with options could increase to a total of US$428.9 million.

The scope of the contract covers architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical facilities for the project.

In May 2015, Five Star Electric, a subsidiary of Tutor Perini Corporation, was awarded a US$90 million lighting contract.

On January 25, 2016, Tutor Perini Corporation was awarded a construction contract worth of $663 million.

Armstrong World Industries was appointed for providing ceiling solutions.

Construction works are underway and slated for completion by 2022.
