Summary Avtovaz (AVAZ) signed a memorandum on a strategic partnership with Kazakh carmaker "Azia Avto" and state-owned Kazakh corporation "Ertis" are undertaking the development of a car assembling plant project in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan.
The new plant is expected to be developed in cooperation with local company Asia Auto and is planning to build the next generation of Lada cars, as well as two models built on Renault-Nissan global platforms. The facility is located in the East Kazakhstan region with an annual production capacity of 120,000 cars.
The project will be implemented in two phases:
The first phase of the project involves the construction of an assembly plant to produce annually 60,000 cars; however, as per earlier plan, the annual plant capacity was 90,000 car.
The second phase of the project involves the construction of an assembly plant to produce 60,000 cars annually; however, as per earlier plan, the annual plant capacity was 30,000 car.
Preparatory works on the project were commenced in the third quarter of 2013.
In November 2013, Construction activities on the first phase of the project commenced.
Construction activities are underway on the first phase and are expected to be completed in 2018.
