Summary
PT Kereta Api Borneo (KAB), a local affiliate of RZDstroy (RZD), is undertaking the construction of East Kalimantan to Central Kalimantan Coal Rail Line project in Indonesia.

The project involves the construction of 285km railroad development and will be implemented in two phases.

The first phase includes the construction of a railroad of 190km from Kutai Barat to Balikpapan in East Kalimantan.

The second phase includes the construction of 95km rail line from Murung Raya regency in Central Kalimantan to Kutai Barat.

It also includes the construction of stations, platforms, administrative facility, the installation of signaling systems, the laying of rail tracks.

In February 2012, Kalimantan Rail signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the East Kalimantan administration for the project. Since, then study works commenced on the project.

In February 2014, Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co (HEC) signed a MoU with RZD for the development of the project and in March 2014, feasibility study was completed including legal and land acquisition concerns.

In September 2014, RZD and Rhomberg-Sersa agreed to establish the Rhomberg-Sersa-RZDstroy GmbH joint venture to bid for new line construction.Rhomberg-Sersa is to undertake technical audit for the project.

The technical audit will assess the source of data used to prepare the terms of reference for the railway design and related infrastructure.

Funding is expected to come from the private sector and Russian state development bank Vnesheconombank.

On November19, 2015, construction works on the first phase were commenced.

The project involves the construction of 285km railroad development in Indonesia.

The US$2,500 million project includes the following:
1. Construction of 190km railroad from Kutai Barat to Balikpapan in first phase
2. Construction of 95km rail line from Central Kalimantan to Kutai Barat in second phase
