Adani Mining Private Ltd (AMPL), a subsidiary of Adani Group, is undertaking the construction of a rail line in Queensland, Australia.

The project involves the construction of a 389km standard gauge, Greenfield rail line. It includes the construction of platforms, bridges, railway stations and related infrastructure, the installation of signaling and safety systems and the laying of tracks.

In 2010, AMPL has acquired the EPC 1690 a coal reserve from Linc Energy Pty. Ltd and on October 22, 2010, AMPL has submitted an initial application to the government.

GHD Pty Ltd was appointed as a consultant.

On November 18, 2010, the application was referred to the Minister for the Environment and in February 2011, a public consultation was held and consultations continued till 2014.

On July 14, 2014, POSCO Engineering & Construction Co Ltd was appointed as contractor and on July 24, 2014, AMPL secured an approval from Minister for the Environment.

In August 2014, AMPL secured an approval from the state government.

October 15, 2015, final federal approval received for the project.

In August 2016, AMPL received approval from Whitsunday Regional Council.

Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department has been appointed as legal adviser.

In May 2017, AMPL awarded US$55 million contract to supply over 54,000 tonne of railway steel for Arrium

Mining company.

Austrak has been appointed to supply 730,000 concrete sleepers.

AECOM awarded the contract for the surveying and design for the development.

As of February 2018, Project is facing delay due to local’s opposition.

The North Galilee Basin Rail project involves the construction of a 389km rail line from Carmichael Coal Mine to Abbot Point coal terminal in Queensland, Australia.
