The Government of Himachal Pradesh (GHP) is building a ropeway in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India.

The project involves the construction of an 8.6km ropeway connecting Palchan village to Rohtang Pass. It includes the construction of ropeway stations, a control room, waiting areas, parking facilities and the installation of towers, cable car machinery and overhead cables.The working system of this ropeway project involves the development of 4 stations and 60 ropeway towers along the alignment.

The ropeway project would be developed on BOT mode for a concession period of 40 Years.

GHP awarded the contract to Power Himalayas Ltd in joint venture with Tata Infrastructure Ltd for the project’s development. Under the terms, the venture will pay US$0.23 million per annum in royalties to the government.

On February 27, 2014, GHP cancelled the allotment of the project to Power Himalayas Ltd, as it failed to pay the project development fee.

In August 5, 2015, approval was given for a special purpose vehicle to be constituted by the promoter in the name of Manali Ropeway Private Ltd, the draft concession agreement and the permission to sign an agreement with the promoter on the revised project cost.

On October 21, 2015, GHP signed MoU with Malana Ropeway Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Tata Infrastructure Ltd for the construction of the project.

The project is facing delay due to the opposition from the local residents.

The project involves the construction of 8.6km ropeway project connecting from Palchan village to 13,050-feet Rohtang Pass in Manali, Himachal Pradesh, India.
