50Hertz Offshore GmbH (50Hertz) is undertaking the offshore grid connection High Voltage Alternate Current (HVAC) transmission line from the Arkona and the Wikinger offshore wind farms to Lubmin substations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

The project involves the construction of 90km underwater transmission line systems and related infrastructure.

The grid connection installation is being planned in four phases.

The first phase of the project involves the laying of an 18km shallow water 220kV transmission line.

The second phase involves the laying of a 21km shallow water 220kV transmission line.

The third phase has the laying of a 27km deep water 220kV transmission line.

The fourth phase has the laying of a 24km deep water 220kV transmission line.

On May 20, 2014, 50Hertz Offshore GmbH awarded a contract worth of US$247.75 million to Prysmian Group. The contract includes, design, produce and install the power cable systems for the Wikinger and Arkona offshore wind parks.

On February 12, 2015 50Hertz Offshore GmbH awarded grid connection contract to SAG Group for the two lots of the wind park cluster Westlich Adlergrund. The contract is valued at US$137.73 million.

On April 1, 2015 50Hertz Offshore GmbH signed a contract agreement with Prysmian Group.

In May 2015 Next Geosolutions and RMS Submarine Ltd was appointed as survey contractor.

On August 13, 2015 the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency approved the planning for the sea route within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)

On August 27, 2015 the grid connection work commenced.

SAG Group will lay approximately 39km sea cables per lot.

Next Geosolutions Ltd has been appointed as geotechnical and engineering consultant.

AWE Arkona Wind Farm Development Co. Ltd., a joint-venture of Statoil ASA and E.ON SE has been appointed as the operator.

In January 2016, Next Geosolutions commenced geophysical, geotechnical and UXO survey for the project.

In November 2016, the surveyor work was completed.

The cable laying activities are underway.

The project involves the underwater transmission line systems from the Arkona and the Wikinger offshore wind farms to Lubmin substations in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany.

The US$1,144 million project includes the following:
1. Laying of a shallow water 220kv HVAC transmission line with a length of 18km in the first phase
2. Laying of a shallow water 220kV HVAC transmission line with a length of 21km in the second phase
3. Laying of a deep water 220kV HVAC transmission line with a length of 27km in the third phase
4. Laying of a deep water 220kV HVAC transmission line with a length of 24km in the fourth phase
