This IDC Study looks at game streaming and what role it will play in the future of console gaming within APEJ. The console market is only a fraction of the size of the PC gaming market within Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APEJ). At the same time, consoles are losing their respective advantages and sales drivers by becoming more homogenized: their hardware is similar to off-the-shelf PC components and the percentage of unique games on each system is now in single digits. "Game streaming is not the savior of the console industry in APEJ but a way for gamers to access game libraries in new ways," says Sam Reynolds, market analyst for client devices, IDC Asia/Pacific. "Both Microsoft and Sony are looking at new ways for gamers to interact with their respective platforms that are different from the traditional console experience. At the same time, the overall impact to PC sales will be marginal," he adds.
