Drink up: New cider producers and products are expected to flood the industry amid heightened demand

Cider Production
Over the five years to 2018, the industry has become the fastest growing alcoholic beverage industry in the United States. Although cider consumption is minimal compared with beer, wine and most distilled spirits, the industry has experienced massive growth stemming from consumer shifts toward craft flavors and alternative alcoholic beverages. However, over the past five years, the industry experienced volatile conditions, as the popularity and growth of cider at the beginning of the period could not be sustained. The industry experienced its most robust growth early during the period when alcoholic cider was still something of a curiosity for many consumers, and few brands were to be found in restaurants and bars. Over the five years to 2023, the industry is forecast to continue expanding, albeit at a more subdued rate. New operators are still expected to enter the industry, introducing new flavored varieties of cider made from different fruits; however, they are not projected to do so at the monstrous rates of the previous five-year period, as consumers no longer view cider as a new fad.

The Cider Production industry comprises companies primarily engaged in the production of alcoholic cider beverages. The production process consists of growing and harvesting apples, pears or other fruits; crushing and pressing the fruits into unfermented wort; and fermenting the blend into its finished product. The industry also includes companies and farms that produce nonalcoholic cider products.

This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
