Tidal Energy Australia (TEA) is planning to undertake the construction of a tidal power station in Derby, Western Australia, Australia.
The project involves the construction of a 40MW tidal power station.
The project will include the construction of a tidal bridge and other related facilities and the installation of turbines, generators, a gearbox, rotors and a coupler.
The project will be a double basin system consisting of six 8MW turbines generating 200GWh of energy per year and displacing around 27,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
In August 2013, the project obtained regulatory approval to move forward with the project plans.
In July 2014, a draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) was prepared by AECOM to enable an assessment of the likely impacts and the proposed mitigation measures on the project.
The period for public comment was closed on November 11, 2014.
TEA is seeking an approval under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act) to construct and operate the tidal power station.
The project involves the construction of a 40MW tidal power station in the tidal inlet of Doctors Creek, approximately 14km north of Derby, Western Australia, Australia.
