Synopsis Europe’s oil and gas industry is mature compared to some developing regions, although the emergence of Russia as a global force and exporter of natural gas is a phenomenon which has gathered pace since the early 1990s.
According to recent studies, UK North Sea oil and gas reserves may only last another decade unless new fields are found and developed, with the onshore fracking industry unlikely to make up much of the shortfall.
