This IDC study presents North America 2017 document imaging scanner shipments and market shares. Unit shipments and share percentage are presented, and data for 2016 and 2017 is actual. North America recorded nearly 970,000 shipments for 2017, a 12.3% decline from the previous year. In comparison to other global markets, North America continues to have the most shipments, representing nearly 40% of global market share. However, as one of only three regions -- the other two being Japan and Central and Eastern Europe -- to feature a decline in year-over-year shipments, North America has the most market weakness as the only region with double-digit decline. On a vendor level, Fujitsu continues to be the largest vendor on the market with nearly 42% of market share. Canon showed the most growth from the previous year of any vendor, with a 51.1% increase in market share from 2016. This growth has led to Canon becoming the third-largest vendor in the market. Epson, the second-largest vendor in the North American market, also did well in 2017, with 32% growth from the previous year."Document content increasingly is born digital, decreasing the demand for document imaging scanners. Yet there continues to be high volumes of paper produced and used across industries, ensuring the continued need for scanning solutions to help organizations in their digital transformation journey." -- Allison Correia, senior research analyst, Imaging, Printing, and Document Solutions
