Through the cracks: Falling steel prices and increasing import penetration will constrain growth
Abstract
Concrete Reinforcing Bar Manufacturing The Concrete Reinforcing Bar Manufacturing industry produces concrete reinforcing bars (rebar) and bar joists. Industry products are made of steel and installed in concrete during pouring to increase its strength and prevent cracking; therefore, they are found in nearly all concrete structures. Over the five years to 2019, construction activity has grown at a healthy rate, boosting the domestic market for industry products. Over the five years to 2024, commercial and industrial demand for rebar is expected to continue to grow at a steady rate. At the same time, global steel prices are anticipated to continue their increase, pushing up product pricing and raising revenue.
This industry produces concrete reinforcing bars (rebar), which are steel rods installed inside concrete to increase its tensile strength and prevent cracking. Rebar is therefore found in a large percentage of concrete structures and is used heavily across construction markets. This industry also produces bar joists, which are similar in use but consist of an open web of a single bent bar running in zigzag pattern.
This report covers the scope, size, disposition and growth of the industry including the key sensitivities and success factors. Also included are five year industry forecasts, growth rates and an analysis of the industry key players and their market shares.
