This IDC study reports the actual IT spending in 2018 and 2019, and the IT spending forecasts from 2020 to 2014 by industry segment, company size, and annual turnover in the Japan IT market. The research analyzes IT spending by dividing the industries into 21 categories, company size, and product classification into five categories, and annual turnover into four categories; and reports IT spending trends in each industry category. The COVID-19 pandemic has a major impact on all industries in Japan and overseas, as well as on the IT market that supports various industries. However, IDC highlights the products and business formats that are slightly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic by responding to the cloud shift and structural changes in usage patterns to subscription in the IT market. In addition, working from home, telecommuting, remote learning, and telemedicine, which are becoming increasingly popular during the COVID-19 pandemic, are gaining wide recognition as important measures for protecting human health and life by preventing the risk of infection from face-to-face contact and meetings in closed spaces. "IT suppliers should be aware that IT not only supports business efficiency and performance but it also serves as an instrument to protect society and human life. Therefore, it is important for them to further research and develop technologies and mechanisms without being satisfied with the current state and quality of IT, and to continue supporting the social infrastructure," says Akira Muranishi, group manager, IT Spending, IDC Japan. This document is a translation from the original Japanese document (IDC #JPJ45149320).
