This IDC Market Perspective examines the print opportunities and challenges presented by COVID-19. Printed pages in the office are subsiding in favor of digital communication, and luxury, publishing, and graphics print jobs are either drying up completely or being replaced by cheaper options. However, the pandemic is creating opportunities in the industrial and production print sector, particularly in the areas of label and packaging, floor and wall signage, and d?cor. In addition, textile and 3D applications are finally finding their niche."Every surface, from textiles to label and packaging to floor and wall covering, is a potential branding opportunity or advertising space, and printer vendors, print service providers, converters and brand owners and ambassadors must think out-of-the-box and about-the-box when working with partners and developing future marketing campaigns," said Sharon McNee, research manager, IDC's European Imaging, Printing and Document Solutions.
