This IDC Market Perspective analyzes DISH's prospects for becoming a 5G nationwide carrier that can compete with the established U.S. mobile operators. DISH Network became a nationwide mobile operator this year with the acquisition of Sprint's Boost Mobile business following the T-Mobile and Sprint merger and has further plans to build a nationwide 5G network."While DISH has many of the ingredients needed to launch a 5G nationwide network, including spectrum, the challenges outweigh the pros for the company," said Sandra Wendelken, senior research analyst, Mobile Services and Software at IDC. "DISH will launch a new mobile network in some form, but the likelihood that it deploys a robust nationwide network that becomes an entrenched long-term competitor to the traditional wireless operators is low."
