Summary
Financial intermediation contributed 31.4% of Belgium’s gross value added (GVA) in 2021, followed by mining, manufacturing and utilities (15.1%), and wholesale, retail and hotels (14.8%). In nominal terms, the three sectors are forecast to grow by 5.7%, 3.1% and 5.8%, respectively, in 2022.

The Flemish region is among the best performing regions in Belgium. It contributed 58.6% of GDP in 2019 and comprised 57.6% of the Belgian population in 2020.

Overall, the BEL20 Index exhibited an increase over last year. As of March 14, 2022, the Index stood at 3,899.2, compared to 3,864.8 on March 14, 2021.
