This IDC PeerScape explores three implementation projects of asset performance management products by three utilities: EDP, a diversified multinational utility with a large base of conventional generation power plants in Spain and Portugal; an American investor-owned electric utility in the Midwest; and a Central European electricity distribution system operator (DSO). The diverse nature of these utilities enables the extraction of good practices for a correspondingly diverse set of asset managers. "Asset performance management deployments are a daunting task," said Phevos Skalidis, research manager in IDC Energy Insights. "Aside from differences in their nature, market-specific characteristics strongly influence utility assets' operational profiles. Gas-fired power plants are nowadays expected to ramp up and down a lot more frequently, while aging electric grids must cope with higher, volatile loads connecting to the low-voltage network."
