Mining, manufacturing and utilities activities contributed 32% to the gross value added (GVA) in 2021, followed by wholesale, retail and hotels (20.6%), and financial intermediation, real estate and business activities (11.3%). These sectors are expected to grow by 6%, 8.7% and 7.1%, respectively, in 2022.

Four major states (Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Johor) contributed 64.5% of the country’s GDP in 2021 and comprised 28.6% of Malaysia’s population in 2021

Overall, the KLCI index (the index comprises the largest 30 companies by full market capitalization on Bursa Malaysia’s Main Board) has been exhibiting an increasing trend since August 2021. As of March 4, 2022, the FBMKLCI index stood at 1,600.6, compared to 1,581.2 on March 4, 2021.
