The new EU Directive coming into effect in mid-2016 was having a detrimental effect upon tobacco product sales in Greece, with volume sales of cigarettes decreasing and smokers migrating again to fine cut tobacco, a category that not been entirely unaffected either. The main changes seen amongst tobacco products were price increases, which boosted value sales of cigarettes, along with changes in pack sizes and the introduction of graphic warnings, which took place officially in September 2016.
