This IDC study analyzes and examines the impacts of IT spending, IT spending priorities, the 3rd Platform deployment status and vendor employment trends among small and medium businesses in relation to various topics, including IT implementation objectives and issues, IT spending budget, and MyNumber system based on the results obtained from Japan Small and Medium Business User Survey conducted in April 2015.

Upper midsize businesses, as well as some of lower midsize businesses continue to spend actively on IT while most of the businesses in the Japan small and medium business IT market are expected to suppress their IT spending. However, expectation for IT utilization aimed at improved business performance is gradually growing among most of the small and medium businesses (SMBs), particularly the expectation for the 3rd Platform. "IT vendors must have the solutions that will contribute to improving business performance using the 3rd Platform and develop a system to deliver these solutions," says Hitoshi Ichimura, IT spending research manager, IDC Japan.
